Notes from West London

The 4-Ring Man, in pictures (Part 5, July 2020–May 2022)

I return to the theme of the “The 4-Ring Man”, originally covered in this piece from 2018. Since then I have occasionally posted photographs of what remains when you drink a pint of beer (usually Guinness), along with examples of how we deal with empty crisp packets. There are links to those earlier pieces below. The last of them was posted just before the first period of lockdown here in the UK, in February 2020.

When pubs reopened in July 2020 my first pint of Guinness was in The New Inn in Brentford. It’s one of the four pubs that we planned to visit the previous Boxing Day, but our hoped-for Brentford FC pub crawl was postponed. It was the first time I have had a drink in a socially-distanced environment, and that continued through August and September 2020, as the photos below show.

It took nearly a year for us to visit any more pubs, and they were outside London, on visits to Oxfordshire and Bishops Stortford. There was a 356-day gap between visits to public houses in London, from The Copper Cow in September 2020 to a memorial celebration at the Union Bar in September 2021.

As in those earlier pieces, each pub or bar features only once. There are no duplicates. As before, I have included the date, pub (and location), and what was in the glass to begin with.
