Bank Holiday Monday here in the UK, and this week ITV are showing repeats of their quiz show “Tenable” that were first broadcast late in 2016, Series 1 Episodes 6-10.

The Ship Mates (S1Ep6) Repeated on Monday 25 May 2020

All 5 of The Ship Mates made it to the final round, playing for 22k, and named 9 of the 10 Regnal names of kings of England since 1066. [The remaining answer: Stephen.] That’s a shame, they got so close: the Captain, whose name is Steve chose Edmund instead of Stephen as his final answer.

  1. I don’t understand how Henry didn’t make it onto the regnal names list, given that there were 8 of them, and Harold did, despite there being 1 Harold who died in October 1066? – George / Charles / James / John / Richard / Stephen / William / Harold / Edward

  2. Thanks for pointing that out. Last week I had a rogue 11th answer in a question about the Periodic Table, and in my hurry to post on Monday I missed out Henry. Sorted now. He’s 7th in the list, which counts down in order of when the name was first used by kings from 1 January 1066 onwards (Edward the Confessor at 10, Harold II at 9, William the Conqueror at 8, and so on).
