2019 Trivia Lists Day 5: the letter E and the number 5

Following on from yesterday’s set of lists here are some challenges involving things that begin with the letter E (including countries, capital cities and chemical elements) or come fifth numerically (such as the fifth Pope and the fifth President of the USA). In each case you can test yourself first to see how many you can name. The answers appear at the end of this piece.

Challenge: Items beginning with E

Countries: there are 8 countries whose usual English names begin with E. How many can you name? [Hint: 1 in Europe, 4 in Africa, 2 in the Americas (including Caribbean island nations), 1 in Asia.] 2021 Update: Since this piece was first published, an African nation has changed its official name to one that begins with an E, so there is now a 9th country to addtothis list.

Capital cities: there are no sovereign states or members of the UN, that have a capital city beginning with E.

Chemical Elements: there are 3 elements whose names begin with E (their symbols also begin with E).
