Over the years, most recently in this piece from September 2020 (updated in February 2021), I have written about the visitors that this Blog has attracted from faraway countries. In 2020 this site had been viewed at least once by people in 48 of the world’s 50 most populous countries. The exceptions were Iran (18th in the list) and Yemen (49th). I can report that at some point in 2024 this Blog has had at least one visit from people in both of these countries.
The information that I get about views and visitors is basic. There is no information about the people who visit this site, or the pages that they viewed, but I can see that a lone reader from Iran stopped by on 1 October 2024. There have been two views from Yemen since the start of the year.
My earlier piece from September 2020 included a table based on population figures in 2018. According to those figures, North Korea was the most populous country yet to register a click anywhere on this site. Having checked the latest figures (here, on Worldometer) I can see that it has been overtaken by Niger.
The following table, based on population sizes for 2024, shows the 10 countries with a population greater than 1 million where this Blog has not yet been viewed. Apart from North Korea they are all in Africa.
| Country | Rank | Population (2024) |
| Niger | 54 | 27,032,412 |
| North Korea | 56 | 26,498,823 |
| Burkina Faso | 59 | 23,548,781 |
| Chad | 65 | 20,299,123 |
| Benin | 76 | 14,462,724 |
| Burundi | 78 | 14,047,786 |
| South Sudan | 81 | 11,943,408 |
| Central African Republic | 122 | 5,330,690 |
| Guinea-Bissau | 148 | 2,201,352 |
| Djibouti | 160 | 1,168,722 |
An old school friend has visited North Korea but is unlikely to return anytime soon. He is in touch with someone who is in more regular contact with the country. He might be able to suggest a page or two that would appeal to citizens of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (or DPRK, to use the official name and abbreviation). It’s possible that restrictions on Internet usage mean that nobody in the DPRK can access this site. If any page views are registered there, I’ll let you know. In the meantime, if you’re travelling to Niger, Burkina Faso, Chad, Benin, Burundi, South Sudan, Central African Republic, Guinea-Bissau or Djibouti, could you give this site a quick visit? Thanks.
