Repertoire: Songs debuted in September 2025

Here’s a list of the songs that I performed in public for the first time during September 2025. Each month I aim to play at least one new song from each of the following repertoires:

  • Songs that reached #1 in the UK.
  • Songs that reached #1 somewhere else.
  • Songs that have not reached #1 anywhere.

Songs that reached #1 in the UK

Sun 7-Sep-2025 A Different Corner (George Michael, 1986) In memory of Tony Slattery. This was played at his Funeral Service

Sun 7-Sep-2025 Horse with no name (America, 1972) #1 in America. It’s in a ring-bound songbook, “Classic Acoustic Playlist” which I have mentioned before here; only 70 songs in there but they come up all the time. Built around two chords, G & Am
Sun 7-Sep-2025 Everybody’s Talking (Nilsson, 1969) #1 in Canada, in the same ring-bound songbook mentioned in the previous line, “Classic Acoustic Playlist”. Played in C
Sun 14-Sep-2025 All My Loving (Beatles, 1964) #1 in Canada, Double A Side with “This Boy”. As usual I play this in a lower key than the original. First chords: Em A7 D Bm G Em C

Sun 21-Sep-2025 Substitute (Clout, 1978) #1 in Ireland, suggested by my son. Originally recorded by The Righteous Brothers, a much slower version. Played in E: E D E D … / A E A E B / Ch: E A B A / Bridge: D A E A C#m G#m F#m G#m A B

Sun 28-Sep-2025 Games People Play (Joe South, 1969) #1 in South Africa. Previously I have played a verse or two of this mashed up with the 2016 #1 “I took a pill in Ibiza”, but I did it on its own this time, in D. Just 3 chords: D A G

Songs that have not reached #1 anywhere

Date Song (Artist, Year it reached #1) Notes
Sun 7-Sep-2025 Life’s a Gas (T Rex, n/a) I was reminded of this one in the summer when someone sang and played it at a party. Check out this video of Marc Bolan duetting with Cilla Black
Sun 21-Sep-2025 Love Me (Elvis Presley, n/a) We have had a go at this unrehearsed, impromptu, but this time it was planned, and rehearsed. Played in E
