Oven-ready quiz rounds: Introduction

In recent months I have been paid to host quizzes in pubs around West London. The pay isn’t great, but I’d rather host a quiz than spend the evening taking part in one.

I have been asked to host a fundraising quiz in the coming weeks and my recent experiences mean that I could even call myself “a professional quiz host”. When asked if I could do it I said that I am ready to host a quiz anytime. Sit me at a piano and I can run through a repertoire of over 200 songs. Give me a room full of quizzers and I can run through a “repertoire” of thousands of quiz questions based on the thousands of hours that I have spent watching quiz shows, taking part in quizzes and writing about trivia.

“What’s the capital of Namibia?” I asked. I didn’t know the answer in 1992, and nor did anyone else in the quiz team that I had been invited to be part of. It cost us first place in a pub quiz in Hammersmith. The answer, and I’m sure I will always remember this: Windhoek.

I have posted over 340 pieces on this Blog categorized as Trivia, containing nearly 380,000 words. There are mnemonics, challenges, lists of questions and answers from quiz shows and (until it moved away from Radio 2) thousands of words about Pop Master. There is also a little-used Category called Quiz Questions, not used since 2022. In the weeks ahead I plan to use it more often, for themed sets of questions. That way if I am called upon to deliver a quiz at short notice I can simply read the questions from here. I’ll call them “Oven-ready quiz rounds” for now.

These lists are primarily for my own purposes, so they will consist of questions without answers to begin with. If you’re into Trivia, give them a go. If there are any questions that stump you, please leave a comment.
