Jo Brand has some good jokes. Like me, she became a parent in her 40s and more than once I have heard her say the following, about what happens when you have two very young children in the house. People stop visiting you. Not because you’re boring and all you want to do is talk about the babies. No, it’s simpler than that. It’s because your house smells of poo.

I have also heard her say, more than once, that she does all the driving in her family. She explains: “I do all the driving in my family because my husband can’t drive … in my opinion”.

That use of “in my opinion”, after a slight pause, has become one of my catchphrases. You can say anything you like, rant and rave about anyone and anything, and finish with “in my opinion”. It makes it all better. It works every time. In my opinion.
